Abstract
Activities involving exposure to heights and cliffs are often included in therapeutic adventure. However heights are a cause of stress to most humans and can trigger a trauma response. This response can look mild and be over-looked or can be extreme and activate flight-fight. However stress exposure can build resilience. This session will discuss common assumptions about the benefits of high activities and the common problems that can occur. An example of how the activity is approached and framed from a client centered view will be explained and demonstrated. All participants can then also undertake the activity to gain first hand experience.
